It does not mean that toxins are removed, ageing is stopped or everyone gains more energy. If a deficiency or a specific medical need is present, a clinician determines the appropriate treatment and route.

Expected benefits and evidence

There is no strong evidence that general health or beauty “detox” programmes remove toxins. High-quality evidence supporting routine high-dose IV vitamins in healthy people without an identified deficiency is also lacking. Direct delivery into the bloodstream does not establish that intravenous treatment is always more beneficial than oral treatment. [1] [2]

How is suitability assessed?

Fatigue can have causes other than vitamin deficiency. Medical history, examination and any clinically indicated tests guide the assessment. Discuss medicines, supplements, allergies, kidney or heart disease, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dietary changes, oral supplementation or another treatment may be more appropriate.

Ingredients, sessions and duration

The same infusion ingredients, dose or number of sessions will not suit everyone. Where an infusion is indicated, its contents, duration and monitoring plan should be explained beforehand. A fixed course cannot be assumed to produce lasting health or skin benefits. This page does not provide an individual treatment or dosing recommendation.

Potential risks

Intravenous access can be associated with pain, bruising, vein irritation or infection. Allergic reactions and fluid or electrolyte load depend on the formulation. Kidney disease, a history of stones and G6PD deficiency require particular consideration when high-dose vitamin C is contemplated. The NCI source concerns high-dose IV vitamin C; it is not evidence of effectiveness for every vitamin mixture. [3]

Frequently asked questions

Is detox the same as treating a vitamin deficiency?

No. Treating an identified deficiency differs from promising general “cleansing” in healthy people.

Is the intravenous route always more effective?

No. The route depends on clinical need. Faster entry into the blood does not by itself establish a better clinical outcome.

When should I seek help afterwards?

Seek emergency assessment for breathing difficulty, fainting or rapidly developing swelling. Increasing pain or redness at the access site, or fever, requires medical attention.

Assessment at Linemed

You can contact our Ataşehir and Levent branches for information and a medical consultation.
