What are exosomes?
Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles involved in communication between cells. Products containing exosomes are not the same as treatment with living stem cells. Sources, manufacturing, contents and delivery routes vary, so exosome products cannot all be treated as one intervention.
What does skin research show?
A 2023 study involving 28 participants reported improvements in certain skin measurements when a specific exosome-containing solution was combined with microneedling. Its small sample and short follow-up do not establish permanent results or safety for all products. A 2026 study also reported a possible short-term contribution from topical use, while noting its unblinded design and 12-week follow-up as limitations. [1] [2]
Which claims cannot be generalised?
Skin studies do not show that hair will definitely regrow, pigmentation or scars will disappear completely, chronic illnesses will be cured or the whole body will be regenerated. Evidence for one study product and method does not directly validate another brand or injection route.
Why do the product and route matter?
A product supplied for topical use must not be assumed suitable for injection. Its name, permitted route and country-specific status should be explained before treatment. The FDA has warned about serious adverse events associated with unapproved exosome products in the United States. This US source does not establish a product’s status in Türkiye. [3]
Planning, duration and risks
There is no universal number of sessions or duration of effect. Suitability, evidence limitations and alternatives should be discussed with a clinician. Irritation, redness, swelling, allergy and infection risks depend on the product and any accompanying procedure. Absence of serious events in a small study does not rule out rare or long-term harm. Discuss active infection, allergies, medicines, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
